One of the most affected segments of our society that has been shaken by the global pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus, SARS CoV-2, is the education sector. The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic brought new challenges to the teaching profession, parents and students.

This program will discuss  the legislative agenda regarding these challenges that the students, parents and teachers are facing in the different learning modalities for this school year 2020-2021. This program will also discuss how the stakeholders, teachers, parents and students can cope with this new normal in education.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

At the end of the program, you will learn the following:

  1. Awareness in the issues related to the learning modalities for this school year 2020-2021 and the legislative agenda for this new normal in education;
  2. As a stakeholder, you will learn about the preparations needed in this new normal of distance education;
  3. As a teacher, you will learn some methods and practices in distance learning and how to prepare quality modules for your students. This course will also help you how to manage the stresses of teaching and student learning from a distance;
  4. As a parent, you will learn how to manage the additional new responsibility of children “going to school at home”;
  5. As a student, you will learn how to cope with longer periods of not being with classmates for physical and social interaction.

ABOUT THE RESOURCE PERSONS

REP. ANTONIO TINO

PRESIDENT – ACT TEACHERS PARTY LIST

A teacher by profession, Antonio L. Tinio has a long record of advocacy for teachers, education workers, and marginalized sectors of Philippine society. Prior to being a legislator, he served as the National Chairperson of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), leading it in its campaigns for decent and adequate salaries and benefits, trade union rights, and other issues affecting the education sector, and the struggle to uphold the peoples’ right to quality education. He was also active in the struggle for genuine agrarian reform, sovereignty, human rights, and other issues affecting the entire nation.

Since becoming a Member of the House of Representatives from 2010-2019, Tinio continued advancing the interests of education workers and other marginalized sectors of the Filipino people as Representative of ACT Teachers Party-List. He successfully introduced laws which increased several allowances of public school teachers and other government employees and regularized thousands of contractual teachers nationwide. He is the principal author of Republic Act 10653 which increased the exemption from income tax of 13th month pay and other bonuses of employees and workers in the private and public sectors; Republic Act 10743 or the National Teachers Day Act; Republic Act 10756 or the Election Service Reform Act, which makes election service voluntary and mandates a higher compensation package for poll workers; Republic Act 11106 or the Filipino Sign Language Act; Republic Act 11304 or the Philippine-American War Memorial Day; and Republic Act 10931 or the Free Tertiary Education law.

At present, he is the President of ACT-Teachers Party-List.

Nagtapos ng mga kursong Bachelor of Arts in Pilipino, bilang iskolar, mula sa Pamantasang Lungsod ng Maynila: Master of Arts in Filipino at Doctor of Education in Educational Administration, bilang iskolar ng Fund for assistance to Private Education (FAPE) mula sa Far Eastern University; at natugunan na ang lahat ng pangangailangan para sa ikalawang doktorado. Doctor of Philosophy in Filipino, major in Translation, bilang iskolar muli, ngayon naman ng Sentro ng Wikang Filipino sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, Diliman.

Naging ispeker na sa iba’t ibang talakayang pangwika at pampanitikan sa kanyang institusyon, lalawigan, rehiyon, bansa at maging sa mga komperensyang pandaigdig na ginanap sa Traders Hotel at Angelo King International Convention Center.

Pinangaralan ng GAWAD NG PAGKILALA ng Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino para sa kanyang mga naiambag sa pagpa[alaganap ng wika at naging isa sa limang PANGWAKAS NA KALAHOK (finalist) sa METROBANK FOUNDATION OUTSTANDING TEACHERS OF THE YEAR 2002 at 2003.

Nagwagi ng Unang Gantimpala sa gawad surian sa Sanaysay-Gantimpalang Collantes, at (ika-2 Karangalang Banggit)  sa Timpalak Gawad Collantes sa Sanaysay sa Panunuring Pampanitikan (Antas Propesyonal) na tangkilik ng Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino.

Naging Pangalawang pangulo at Direktor ng mga Pambansa at Panrehiyong Seminar ng PSLLF (Pambansang Samahan at Linggwistika at Literaturang Filipino); at Tagapangulo (Lupon sa Panunuring Pampelikula) ng PASADO (Pampelikulang Samahan ng mga Dalubguro)

Natala sa Pambansang Direktoryo ng mga Alagad ng Wika na lathala sa UP Sentro ng Wikang Filipino at Pambansang Komisyon sa Kultura at mga Sining (NCCA).
